HOT Instruction with Large Classes: A Critical Pilot

Session Description
The UH Manoa Secondary Education faculty launched a combined on-site and on-line program in Spring 2018, relying in part on a Here-or-There (HOT) approach to instruction. Students can attend in-person in a large, technology-rich classroom; or online via web conference. Program parameters include large-group and small-group interactions, lectures, and structured activities within single sessions. Simultaneous accommodation of 80 learners presented significant instructional design challenges. This presentation will review the challenges and approaches used to support a HOT environment at this scale.
