I am a PhD Student at the University of Hawaii at Manoa’s College of Education, and I am in the Department of Learning Design and Technology. In addition, I am pursing a graduate level “Certificate in Online Learning and Teaching,” and the course I created is the final step in achieving this certificate.

Before enrolling into the certificate and the doctorate program, I was an English as a Second Language instructor. I taught general English primarily to high school and college students, but I also tutored students for the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL). The TOEFL is not an easy examination as it is often the only way for English speaking universities to determine if the student has the skills to succeed in the classes.

The course I have created is an attempt to help international students achieve their goal in studying at an English speaking university. Through the years of tutoring students for the TOEFL, I have learned many strategies to help students, and I hope this course is one of them.
