Video in the Classroom: Enhancing Social Presence and Academic Culture in Online Learning

Session Description
Since the inception of online education, advancements in technology and innovative approaches to teaching have potentially enhanced social presence in the classroom and the academic culture of institutions of higher learning. The ScreenCastify video recording software is a Google Chrome browser extension that can enhance social presence and academic culture.

Dr. Sean Doyle earned a PhD in Organization and Management from Capella University in 2012. He started his academic career in 2001, teaching at New York University in the Department of Nutrition as an Adjunct Instructor facilitating courses in the Culinary Science laboratory. He has been teaching business related courses at institutions of higher learning and serves as a professional development consultant in on-ground, blended, and online learning environments. His discipline areas and research interests include Organizational Strategy, Customer Relationship Management, Organizational Design, Service Delivery, Small Business Management, Leadership, Experiential Learning, and Competency-Based Learning.

As a Professor in the School of Business and Information Technology, Dr. Doyle is course lead for the Management Internship, Strategy and Policy, Consumer Behavior, and International Marketing courses at the Baccalaureate level. Dr. Doyle believes in people, the importance of sharing knowledge, and doing his part to help develop, inspire, and nurture inquisitive minds. Dr. Doyle was awarded “Faculty of the Year” in 2014 and 2017, and received the “Spirit of Kaplan” award in 2010.

Dr. Doyle consults with small and medium sized organizations specializing in operations management, service delivery, marketing strategy, and organizational design. As a Chef early in his career, Dr. Doyle managed culinary operations for respected Hospitality organizations like Aramark, Hyatt, Disney, and Sheraton. He consulted on innovative marketing and operations projects for top restaurateurs and hoteliers in the Hospitality business. Additionally, he has been a residential and commercial Realtor® in the State of Florida since 2004.
